Dr. Jane’s Dream

Experiential Conservation Center in Arusha, Tanzania

Participated in blue sky development in collaboration with Joe Rohde, a former Walt Disney Imagineer

Project Overview

Dr. Jane’s Dream is an experiential conservation center in Arusha, Tanzania. Inspired by Dr. Jane Goodall’s message of active hope, the space works to develop a deep empathy for animals and a strong desire to protect species among visitors.

My Role

Blue Sky Development

I was invited to participate in a charrette for Dr. Jane’s Dream. I conducted research, created preliminary visuals, and brainstormed solutions for the conservation center. Specifically, I helped develop a chimpanzee interactive experience and created a mockup for a global mural.

For the chimpanzee interactive experience, we took an existing concept and further developed it. We researched materials and mechanisms that could make the experience more interesting and exciting. I helped break down the mechanical elements that make the system function.

For the global mural, I researched fabrics from countries across Afro-Eurasia to create an imaginative and abstract mural. I began by layering it all together (1), then I played with the color and saturation (2), and lastly warped the fabrics to create a dreamy feel (3).

Outcomes

I learned how to take an existing idea and develop it quickly at the professional level. After rapid ideation and mock-ups, my work is advancing to schematic design.
