Queue Optimization Study

Optimizing Service Flow at Café Dulce (USC Village)

Conducted for ISE 105 - Intro to Industrial & Systems Engineering

Project Overview

This study aims to examine and optimize the operational inefficiencies within the line of service flow at Café Dulce and proposes data-driven improvements in order to reduce the customer wait time and enhance the overall service quality. This research also identifies the analysis of root cause, bottleneck, and uneven task distribution among staff.

Ultimately, the study indicates how small service operations can benefit from systematic analysis and offers a practical model for continuous improvement.

My Role

Throughout this semester-long research project, I focused my efforts on best practices benchmarking, proposed improvements, and recommendations.

We conducted and combined surveys, customer-flow mapping, and basic industrial and systems engineering tools.

Outcomes

We learned how to take industrial and systems engineering principles into real-life applications. We learned the components that go into conducting thorough research and the importance of identifying the problem.
